ChemInform Abstract

Cyclization of the 2-aminopyridinium perchlorate (I) with the β- dicarbonyl compounds (II) or the malonaldehyde acetal (V) give the pyridopyrimidinium perchlorates (III) and (VI). (IIIa) is heated with an acidic ion exchanger, producing the betain (IV).
