ChemInform Abstract

ESR spectroscopic investigations reveal for the first time that the radical cation (I), generated by radiolytic oxidation in CFCl3, on exposure to visible light isomerizes to (II). This is in accordance with calculated parameters. The observation of (II) is significant as a novel example of a radical cation with a highly strained and previonsly unrealized molecule. This photoproduct undergoes thermal reconversion to (I).
