ChemInform Abstract

Methyl cyclopropylacetate (III) is prepared from vinylacetic acid (I) by concomitant Pd(OAc)2 catalyzed cyclopropanation and esterification with diazomethane (II). An alternative route to (III) comprising cyclopropanation of allyl cyanide (IV) followed by alkaline hydrolysis and esterification gives lower overall yields and a product of inferior purity.
