Trimethylsilyl triflate promotes the (3 + 4)annulation reaction of the γ-dicarbonyl compounds (I) with the bis(trimethylsiloxy) butadienes (II) or (IV), forming diastereoselectively the oxabicyclooctanones (III) or (V) and (VI). A mechanism is proposed. ( No experimental details).
