(4 + 2)Cycloaddition reaction of cyclopentadiene (I) with the unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives (II), (IV), or (VI) is performed in the presence of bakers′ yeast. In contrast to usual results, the dienophiles (II) and (VIb) prefer the formation of the exo-cycloadducts (III) and (VIIIb) respectively.
