ChemInform Abstract

The α-epoxycarane (I) is coupled with the isothiuronium salts ( II) to give the alkylthiocaranols (III) and the biscaranyl sulfide (IV) . Reaction of the isomeric β-epoxycarane (V) with (II) produces predominantly the alkylthio compounds (VI). The biscaranyl sulfide ( VII) is obtained from (V) and thiourea (VIII). (Mechanism).
