ChemInform Abstract

The pyrazolidinone (I) reacts with the vinylphosphonates (II) to give the adducts (III). These are treated with the acid chloride (IV) to form the intermediate keto ester (V) which is subjected to intramolecular olefination, yielding the pyrazolidinones (VI). These are coupled with the carboxylic acids (VII) to produce the amides ( VIII) with high antibacterial activity.
