Cyclization of the iodoquinolones (IVa) or (IVb) provides the title compounds (Va) or (Vb). Whereas (Va) can be also obtained by two alternative cyclization procedures from the precursors (VI) or (VII), these methods do not work for the analogous dimethoxy derivatives (Vb).
