Abstract

The pyrones (I) react with dehydrobenzene (II), generated in situ from benzenediazonium-2-carboxylate by thermal decomposition, to give the polycyclus (III).

ChemInform Abstract

The pyrones (I) react with dehydrobenzene (II), generated in situ from benzenediazonium-2-carboxylate by thermal decomposition, to give the polycyclus (III). Application of the same procedure to the pyrone (IV), only leads to the formation of compound (IV). Under milder conditions a mixture of the fused phenanthridines (V) and (VI) is produced. The synthesis of the starting materials (I) and (IV) is described in the original paper.
