Abstract

Demethylation of 9-methoxyjulolidine (I) according to a novel procedure affords the desired 9-hydroxyjulolidine hydrobromide (II) in quantitative yield.

ChemInform Abstract

Demethylation of 9-methoxyjulolidine (I) according to a novel procedure affords the desired 9-hydroxyjulolidine hydrobromide (II) in quantitative yield. The reaction of (II) with the aminoalkyl chlorides (III) affords the title quinolizines (IV) which are expected to display antidepressant activity. The reactions between the 1,2-epoxypropane (V) and the primary amines (VI) yield the title propanols (VII) which are expected to act as tranquillizers. Pharamacological screening reveals that only the compounds (IVa) display some of the expected antidepressant activity.
