Abstract

The neopentylation of phenol and various hydroquinones such as (I) is achieved using neopentyl iodide (II) in the presence of Cs2CO3.

The neopentylation of phenol and various hydroquinones such as (I) is achieved using neopentyl iodide (II) in the presence of Cs2CO3. Even sterically hindered hydroquinones such as (Id) are smoothly converted to neopentyl ethers.
