Abstract

The reduction of difluoro hydroxy ketones such as (I) with DIBAL gives mixtures of syn- and anti-diols, e.g. (II) + (III), in varying ratios.

ChemInform Abstract

The reduction of difluoro hydroxy ketones such as (I) with DIBAL gives mixtures of syn- and anti-diols, e.g. (II) + (III), in varying ratios. The reduction with DIBAL in the presence of ZnCl2-TMEDA or the Wagner-Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction, however, is highly selective leading to syn- or anti-diols, respectively.
