Abstract

Electrochemical reaction of polycyclic aromatic ketones such as (I) and (III) at platinum electrodes in acetonitrile in the presence of excess ethanethiol leads to the formation of the corresponding aromatic hydrocarbons, e.g. (II) and (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

Electrochemical reaction of polycyclic aromatic ketones such as (I) and (III) at platinum electrodes in acetonitrile in the presence of excess ethanethiol leads to the formation of the corresponding aromatic hydrocarbons, e.g. (II) and (IV). The aliphatic and aromatic ketones and aldehydes (V), however, are converted to the corresponding dithioacetals (VII) under similar conditions. Additional examples are described in the original paper.
