Abstract

The α-aminomalonate ion undergoes a C-N bond formation with (I) affording in MeOH under air a mixture of (III), (IV) and (V) with no selectivity.

ChemInform Abstract

The α-aminomalonate ion undergoes a C-N bond formation with (I) affording in MeOH under air a mixture of (III), (IV) and (V) with no selectivity. The same reaction under N2 gives preferentially the α-diamine complex (IV), whereas the reaction in water under air yields predominantly the novel carbinolamine complex (V) (12% yield). The X-ray structure of (IV) as its chloride salt is determined (P1, Z=4).
