ChemInform Abstract

The complexes (IV) are obtained by an in situ procedure outlined in the scheme for the homonuclear compounds (IVa). For the preparation of (IVb)-(IVe), both of the appropriate metal nitrates are used. The possible structures and the interaction between the metal ions are discussed on the basis of spectroscopic, mass spectrometric and magnetic data. Laser-excited luminescence spectra and lifetimes confirm the existence of heteronuclear species. The yield of Tb(III) to Eu(III) energy transfer is quantified and the intermetallic distance evaluated.
