ChemInform Abstract

The sulfur ylide Pd complexes (IV) (space group P21/n, Z=4) and (V) (yields 50-80%; (Va): P212121, Z=4) are prepared under basic phase-transfer catalysis. Increasing the amount of phase-transfer catalyst enhances the rates of formation of the complexes. The optimal range of base concentration is found to be 1.0-2.0 N. The proposed role of the phase-transfer catalyst is to carry OH- into the organic layer and to prevent the ylide from abstracting a proton from water present in the organic phase.
