Abstract

3-Hydroxycinnamic acid (I) is converted to the ester (IV) in a three-step sequence.

ChemInform Abstract

3-Hydroxycinnamic acid (I) is converted to the ester (IV) in a three-step sequence. (IV) is transformed into the acid chloride (V) in a usual manner. Reaction of (V) with the 2-aminphenyltriphenylporphyrin (VI) and subsequent debenzylation yield the porphyrin (VII). This reacts with anhydrous iron(II) acetate, forming the iron(III) tetraphenylporphyrin complex mentioned in the title which serves as a model for catalytic chemistry of a metalloporphyrin having an axial ligand.
