Abstract

The cyclization of the indolizines (III), having an acyl and/or cyano group at the 1- and 3-positions, is examined under several alkaline conditions to yield the title compounds (IV)-(VII) in fairly good yields.

ChemInform Abstract

The cyclization of the indolizines (III), having an acyl and/or cyano group at the 1- and 3-positions, is examined under several alkaline conditions to yield the title compounds (IV)-(VII) in fairly good yields. The cyclization modes observed are in accordance with molecular orbital calculations using some model compounds and with stereochemical considerations of the starting indolizines. Various other examples are given.
