Abstract

Carbonylation of tert-butyl bromide (I) in the presence of dicyclopentadienylsamarium yields the diol (III) and the hydroxy dione (IV) or exclusively (III) depending on the reaction temperature.

ChemInform Abstract

Carbonylation of tert-butyl bromide (I) in the presence of dicyclopentadienylsamarium yields the diol (III) and the hydroxy dione (IV) or exclusively (III) depending on the reaction temperature. Addition of heptanal (V) to the reaction mixture results in the formation of the acyloin (VI). (Mechanism).
