Abstract

Oxidation of the aromatic bisether (I) with ceric ammonium nitrate gives the fused benzoquinone (II) which reacts with the diacetoxybutadiene (III), forming the naphthoquinone (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

Oxidation of the aromatic bisether (I) with ceric ammonium nitrate gives the fused benzoquinone (II) which reacts with the diacetoxybutadiene (III), forming the naphthoquinone (IV). This is substituted with the primary amines (V) to give the amino derivatives (VI). Additionally, the quinones (IV) and (X) are prepared by cyclization of the acetals (IX). Further examples are given in the original paper.
