Abstract

The arylboronic acids (I) are coupled with the o-bromotoluenes (II) in the presence of a Pd catalyst and subsequently with LDA to yield the phenanthrols (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

The arylboronic acids (I) are coupled with the o-bromotoluenes (II) in the presence of a Pd catalyst and subsequently with LDA to yield the phenanthrols (IV). Some of their derivatives, e.g. (V) and (VII), are subjected to further modifications. The boronic acid (XI) reacts with p-bromonitrobenzene (XII) under palladium catalysis, producing the biaryl (XIII).
