Abstract

The title complexes (I) and (II) are examined with regard to the axial coordination of the pendant sulfur.

ChemInform Abstract

The title complexes (I) and (II) are examined with regard to the axial coordination of the pendant sulfur. (I), which is prepared from the Schiff base and FeCl3 in MeOH, crystallizes in P21/n with Z=4 and contains the sulfur not coordinated. (IIa), obtained from the Schiff base and MnCl2 in MeOH, crystallizes in P1 with Z=2; an absorption band in the electronic spectrum is tentatively assigned to a charge-transfer transition from S to Mn(III). An analogous six-coordinate structure is indicated for (IIb) (prepared from Co acetate, the Schiff base ligand and imidazole at reflux temp.) from the electronic spectra and the electrochemical behavior (yields not given).
