Abstract
Northebaine (I) is obtained from thebaine by demethylation with diisopropyl azodicarboxylate.

Northebaine (I) is obtained from thebaine by demethylation with diisopropyl azodicarboxylate. Using succinic anhydride instead of (IV), the analogue of the thebaine derivative (V) is obtained (yield 45%).
