Abstract

In the presence of a free radical initiator the bromination of the (-)-2-arylidene-p-menthan-3-ones (I) by NBS affords the 4-bromo derivatives (II), which are dehydrobrominated to give the menthene derivatives (III).

ChemInform Abstract

In the presence of a free radical initiator the bromination of the (-)-2-arylidene-p-menthan-3-ones (I) by NBS affords the 4-bromo derivatives (II), which are dehydrobrominated to give the menthene derivatives (III). The structures of the title compounds (II) and of (III) are deduced from their IR and 1H NMR data.
