ChemInform Abstract

Addition of tert.-butyl-Li (II) to (I) leads to the formation of the title compound (IV), the first dilithiomethane stabilized by two boryl substituents. Its 1,3-diborataallene structure is established by NMR (1H, 13C, 11B) data and X-ray analysis (space group Pbcn, Z=4). (IV) can be converted into its monoprotonated and diprotonated form (V) by cyclopentadiene; thus, (IV) reacts like a dilithiomethane. In contrast to known dilithiomethane derivatives which are aggregated, the title compound (IV) is monomeric.
