Abstract

Flash vacuum pyrolysis of the sulfoxide (XII), prepared from L-methionine (I) via the N-hydroxy amino acid ester (VI), gives the vinyldihydropyridone (XIII) instead of a carbacephalosporin.

ChemInform Abstract

Flash vacuum pyrolysis of the sulfoxide (XII), prepared from L-methionine (I) via the N-hydroxy amino acid ester (VI), gives the vinyldihydropyridone (XIII) instead of a carbacephalosporin. Similarly, pyrolysis of the diene (XV) does not form the carbacephalosporin skeleton, but produces a mixture of the dihydropyridones (XVI) and (XVII).
