Abstract

Thermal expansion is measured in the temp. range 300-1000 K for several ternary compounds with ThMn12-type structure (RFe10V2 (R: Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Ho, Er, Y), YFe10Mo2, and YFe10.8Ti1.2) and for compounds with Nd2Fe14B-type structure (R2Fe14C (R: Nd, Gd-Er, Lu) and Lu2Fe14B).

ChemInform Abstract

Thermal expansion is measured in the temp. range 300-1000 K for several ternary compounds with ThMn12-type structure (RFe10V2 (R: Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Ho, Er, Y), YFe10Mo2, and YFe10.8Ti1.2) and for compounds with Nd2Fe14B-type structure (R2Fe14C (R: Nd, Gd-Er, Lu) and Lu2Fe14B). ThMn12-type compounds, in which considerable magnetic disorder is present, exhibit a smaller thermal expansion anomaly than Nd2Fe14B-type compounds. For some compounds very small thermal expansion coefficients are found in the temp. range 20-280 °C indicating that these materials may be good candidates for application as Invar-type alloys.
