Abstract

Hydrogenation of the acrylic acids (I) in methanol (II) using rhodium(III) chloride as the catalyst produces the saturated methyl esters (III).

ChemInform Abstract

Hydrogenation of the acrylic acids (I) in methanol (II) using rhodium(III) chloride as the catalyst produces the saturated methyl esters (III). The cinnamic acids (IV) undergo simultaneous hydrogenation of the aromatic nucleus, yielding the cyclohexylpropanoates (V). Under the same conditions, esterification of saturated acids such as (VI), (VIII), and (X) is performed.
