ChemInform Abstract

The N-methylisoquinolinedione (I) is coupled with the bromoarenes (II) in the presence of sodium ethoxide and copper powder or copper(I) bromide to produce the 4-arylisoquinolinediones (III). This method, developed by Hurtley, is based on the activation of the reactants due to intermediate formation of copper complexes.
