Abstract

The 4-bromo-2-sulfolenes (I) react with the alkyl cuprates (II) or thiophenol (V), giving the 3-sulfolenes (III) or the 2-sulfolenes (IV) and (VI).

The 4-bromo-2-sulfolenes (I) react with the alkyl cuprates (II) or thiophenol (V), giving the 3-sulfolenes (III) or the 2-sulfolenes (IV) and (VI). (IVc) and (VI) are isomerized by treatment with a base to form (VII). Thermolysis of (IVc) produces the butadienes (VIII).
