Abstract

The imino ketones (I) are cleaved in refluxing methanol (II) to produce methyl benzoate (IV) and the imine (V) via retro-ene reaction of the intermediate hemiacetal (III).

ChemInform Abstract

The imino ketones (I) are cleaved in refluxing methanol (II) to produce methyl benzoate (IV) and the imine (V) via retro-ene reaction of the intermediate hemiacetal (III). The diimine (VI) reacts with benzylamine (VII) in a similar manner, yielding the imines (VIII) and (IX).
