Abstract

The results show that Hg(II) quantitatively displaces Cd(II) from the protein.

ChemInform Abstract

The results show that Hg(II) quantitatively displaces Cd(II) from the protein. In this protein Hg(II) adopts both a tetrahedral and a linear coordination geometry. It is also indicated that a facile interchange reaction of Cd(II) and Hg(II) upon mixing the all Cd(II) and all Hg(II) forms of metallothionein result in a stable mixed-metal species.
