The silylated azetidinones (Ia) and (IIa) are oxidized under Sharpless conditions to yield the hydroxy compounds (Ib) and (IIb).

ChemInform Abstract

The silylated azetidinones (Ia) and (IIa) are oxidized under Sharpless conditions to yield the hydroxy compounds (Ib) and (IIb). (IIb) is acetylated and desilylated to give (IIIa) which is consecutively converted to the derivatives (IIIb) and (IIIc), (IV), and (V). (VIb) is transformed into the derivatives (VII) via (VIa).
