Abstract
Sulfonation of the indolin-2-one (I) yields the tautomeric 5-sulfo derivatives (II) and (III).

Sulfonation of the indolin-2-one (I) yields the tautomeric 5-sulfo derivatives (II) and (III). The mixture reacts with acetone to give the isopropylidene compound (IV). In the presence of polyphosphoric acid ester, the ethoxysulfonyl derivative (V) is obtained. This is an analogue of the antiphlogistic and analgetic drug 5-acetyl-1-phenylindolin-2-one (VI).
