ChemInform Abstract

The N-methoxy-N-methylcarbamate (III) is prepared from the chloroformate (I) in a one-pot procedure by treatment with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and subsequent methylation of the N-ethoxycarbonylhydroxylamine (II) formed. The compound (III) undergoes saponification and decarboxylation, yielding the hydrochloride (IV) mentioned in the title. (IV) is a useful reagent, e.g. for the preparation of N-methoxymethylamides.
