ChemInform Abstract

As shown by XRD and FTIR and laser Raman spectra, MoO3 is highly dispersed on ZrO2 at low Mo content, forming an amorphous phase which is characterized as polymolybdates. At low Mo content the polymolybdate seems to have a shorter chain and a more distorted structure than at high Mo content. The rates of oxidation of propene and the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethanol at these catalysts pass through maxima around 10 at.% Mo providing evidence that the rates over polymolybdate are 10-20 times higher than those over crystalline MoO3.
