ChemInform Abstract

The electrochemical intercalation of Li at 300 K into the Mo6X8 (X: S, Se) and the formation of ternary LixMo6X8 phases has been investigated. Complete 7Li NMR phase diagrams have been established, and thermodynamic data are given. The intercalation is found to be completely reversible, and a rather high Li+ ionic mobility is observed. Four ternary, rhombohedral phases are identified for x = 1, 3,3.8, and 4. The results give evidence for an unexpected and rather complex electronic behavior of this system, which is discussed in detail.
