Abstract
The bicyclobutane carboxylic acid derivatives (Ib) and (Ie) isomerize in the presence of Co(II) porphyrin yielding the cyclobutene compounds (II).

The bicyclobutane carboxylic acid derivatives (Ib) and (Ie) isomerize in the presence of Co(II) porphyrin yielding the cyclobutene compounds (II). Using the same reaction conditions, the methylated derivatives (Ic) and (Id)′don′t react, (Ic) gives polymeric products. (NMR-, MS- data).
