Abstract
The indoles (I) and (V) react readily with methyl acrylate (II) under Pd catalysis to give the corresponding insertion products (III), (IV) and (VI).

The indoles (I) and (V) react readily with methyl acrylate (II) under Pd catalysis to give the corresponding insertion products (III), (IV) and (VI). Attempts to prepare pyrroloindoles by an intramolecular reaction of (I) or (V), however, are not successful. These reactions are part of a review of the palladium-catalysed synthesis of indoloquinones (17 refs.).
