First published: 20 August 2019

Abstract

No abstract.

Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering dealing with the processes necessary to produce useful materials and energy (production, transformation, transportation, and usage). Chemical engineers apply knowledge from the physical and biological sciences as well as mathematics and economics. Due to the growing importance of sustainability, much research was carried out and technologies were developed in the area of chemical engineering and technology to enhance the production in a more sustainable way.

This special issue of Chemical Engineering & Technology commemorates the successful 4th edition of the International Conference of Chemical Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology (ICCEIB). The conference was hosted by the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, in August 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The focus of this special issue lies on the latest developments related to food, energy, and water and covers the following topics: microwave assisted extraction and its optimization, acid hydrolysis, molecular dynamics and simulation, extraction of bioactive compounds, hydrogen separation, waste to energy or energy from waste, characterizations of natural products as well as hydrogen application in fuel cell technology and in methanation/ reduction processes

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all referees for their independent reviews of the submitted manuscripts. We also express our special gratitude to Dr. Barbra Boeck and her editorial team for their solid support in ensuring a successful publication of this special issue.
