Abstract

Reaction of 5-arylidene-3-methyl-rhodanine and 4-benzylidene-1, 3-oxathiolan- 5-on with alcoholates yields esters of 2-mercapto-cinnamic acids. Reaction of 4-benzylidene-1, 3-oxathiolan-5-on with primary amines gives 5-benzylidene-3-alkyl-4-thiazolones except for methylamine which yields N-methyl 2-mercapto-cinnamamide. Some derivatives (amides, ester, thioester) of 2-methylthiocinnamic acid have been prepared.
