Abstract

The vibrational photoexcitation by laser of one component in a binary gaseous reactant mixture, gives the possibility to initiate bimolecular reactions under walless conditions. The present work concerns the initiation by laser of two reactions of oxidation.

n-C4H10 and SO2 are activated by absorption of the C. W. radiation of a tunable CO2 laser. The results concerning the formation of products as a function of the irradiation time and the role of the initial pressure of reactants is discussed.
