Abstract
Active transport is the transport of substances against their activity gradients. In the cell, metabolic processes provide the energy for active transport through the membrane, during which amino acids are coupled with a carrier system located in the membrane. Some of the proteins involved in the translocation of amino acids have now been isolated from E. coli.
