Abstract

en

A method has been established for obtaining an isotropic X-ray diagram of oriented fibres using a four-circle automatic diffractometer. The method was applied to the determination of the degree of crystallinity of a series of poly(ethylene terrephthalate) fibres with different history. For the characterization of structural changes in these fibres, the apparent size of the crystallities, the unit cell dimensions and the degree of orientation were determined. It is shown that this group of parameters adequately describes structural changes in the fibres with a low degree of crystallinity.
