Summary

Biofuels of the first generation show a sobering balance: They don't necessarily release a smaller amount of greenhouse gases than fossil fuels. Large-scale cultivation of energyyield plants in addition threatens food production and ecosystems. Hopes now rest on the second generation - and on completely new processes.
