This chapter covers the specific aspects of immunohematology and transfusion medicine that are relevant to the laboratory practice of hematology. It discusses the major erythrocyte blood group antigens and basic blood bank testing for alloantibodies and autoantibodies. Basic principles of transfusion and component therapy are covered, as are immunohematologic issues with anemia, solid organ transplantation, and bone marrow transplantation.
