Abstract

Research over the past 50 years has documented many social barriers encountered by parents raising disabled children including difficulties obtaining diagnoses, accessing information and services, and managing stigma. Parents are often forced to embark on an individual search for information and appropriate services and to fight for scarce resources. Despite the challenges, parents highlight the benefits of raising disabled children.
