Abstract

Social change may have adverse effects – bring shocks and wounds to the social and cultural tissue – that result in trauma. This obviously happens when the change is harmful for the people, for example in times of war, famine, or earthquake; but this is true also of changes that are beneficial, expected, and defined as a victory by the people, as in the case of progressive reform, or successful revolution.
