Abstract

Formulating a multiethnic digital humanities is a thorny proposition. It presumes the existence of an objective, unequivocal digital humanities sine qua non , but even a cursory glance at the extant literature reveals how fluid the field is, and how rapidly it has evolved over the last two or three decades. Thus, tracking a definition of a multiethnic digital humanities is somewhat elusive when the digital humanities itself is slippery. Therefore, the author's objectives are twofold: first, he gives a simplified overview of the scholarly debate over conceptualizing the digital humanities, and discusses several possible avenues for a multiethnic digital humanities. Second, in gesturing toward defining multiethnic digital humanities, the author reverses course by complicating digital humanities according to, and in engagement with, scholarly discussions of race and ethnicity. Theoretical intersections in digital humanities and race and ethnic studies are both long-standing and nascent.
