Release 16 Features and Use Cases
Abstract
This chapter extends the features chapter of the previously published 5G Explained of Release 15 that outlined expected services and application types for the 5G era. It details further the descriptions and extends the summaries to cover the key features of Release 16, walking the reader through the use cases relevant to Phase 2 of 5G. Of various references, the key source of information forming the foundation of this chapter is the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) use case study. It contains more than 70 use cases that form the above-mentioned five categories of eMBB, mIoT/mMTC, CriC, NEO, and V2X. The chapter presents service requirements from the main categories of SMARTER use cases related to verticals. These serve as examples to distinguish between the verticals and their grand variety of needs.
